Yes! I use computer glasses combined with blue light screen film. They are so much clearer and eye strain comfortable than my multi focal glasses (which caused me to hold my head at the small band focal length). I set my computer glasses at approx 36″ length from the screen. I like to lean back on the office chair and watch video’s, etc. I go back to the multi focal glasses especially when typing because the keyboard is naturally too close for the keyboard when a lot of typing is necessary. I also purchase a pair of reading glasses to allow easy book or letter reading, All three glasses sit on top of my printer and I flick them around as required. The reading glasses used infrequently. The multi focal ones used when I want to turn around a bit to view a bit of the TV news or game show.

I strained my eyes really bad doing a 7-Day free trial on the internet that taught how to write code and develop blockchain. That was over a year ago. I got a pair of gunners blue blocking computer glasses, use the blue light filter on all my devices, and cut back on screen time as much as possible but I still cannot look at a screen for more than a few minutes without my eyes getting dry and blurry. It also makes things at a distance get progressively harder to focus on. I went to the doctor and they said I had astigmatism in both eyes and one of them was just a hair nearsighted. They gave me some glasses that helped a little bit but seemed to make my vision worse after a few weeks. I’m not sure what to do at this point aside from taking a bunch of vitamins and completely avoid screens all together for about 6 months but that would be almost impossible.
I use a blue filter in my old style lined trifocal lens…the middle section serves as my computer glasses.

Though I work in clinical research of which I stare at the computer screen for quite awhile reading protocol and all that research lingo. When I recently was prescribed glasses for astigmatism (I had blurry vision after staring at my phone and books for too long) my doctor warned me about using them “when I didn’t need them” because of eye-muscle atrophy. He said to use them as a tool when my vision felt strained, but not to use them every time I read, since we want our eye muscles to still “exercise,” as it were (to use your lifting analogy). What do you think about this? Is it better to always use the glasses when reading (on my phone and books) to reduce the amount of weight (5lbs instead of 20) or continue to use the glasses only sometimes?

Just want to say, I use an actual blue light bulb for sleepwalking at night, it feels like walking under the night sky- comfortable.

I’m a senior citizen with glaucoma. I’m both nearsighted and farsighted with astigmatism in both eyes. I’ve been wearing bifocals for many years. The top part is for distance so I can see street signs when I’m driving and the bottom part is for reading. I have no idea what power my bifocals are. Without my glasses, I can’t even see the giant E on the eye chart. That’s how bad my vision is. Most of my family and friends live hundreds and thousands of miles away so I spend a lot of time on the computer on Facebook and other apps to stay in touch with them. I use non-prescription blue-light blocking glasses. They were inexpensive and I bought them online. They are designed to fit over my prescription glasses. They work very well.

Hi Doc, i have an eye problem for many years and I’m worried if I going to blind. My eyes is very sensitive to light and to the different objects even if I only stare for a seconds and also when I stare to a computer, cellphone or tablet, I felt sudden pain inside the eyes. Also when at night, I saw a black circle object, blocked my vision sometimes and a lot of weird objects hard to describe. I use blue light blocking glasses as job got really virtual after pandemic, my eyes were sore at the end of the day. I must say the soreness is gone after I started using them.
Love how I get these right after I just got my no prescription plain old blue light glasses.
I am hyperopic, astigmatic and presbyopic. Therefore, I have progressive computer glasses with a power around half my reading prescription, but stronger than my distance prescription in the “computer range zone” and a full reading prescription in the bottom portion. In addition, blue filtering was added in so this pair is really my Swiss Army Knife of eyewear. One thing to point out, the glasses have a much wider field of view – something which is very important when using large display screens – and much easier than the standard progressive lenses with their narrow intermediate zone. This reduces a lot of neck movement aligning the narrow around a large screen. They are much more comfortable for a full day in the office.

I went to the eye doctor and she told me my eyes are insensitive with the light of the electronics. So she gave a an eye drop called Pro Lub and a prescribed glasses. But none of them work for me. I am a full time student and I get terrible headaches just from reading my textbook for 30mins. I also get headaches from looking at my computer screen for more than 30mins. I bought a pair of blue light glasses but honestly, didn’t really wear them. Glad they weren’t expensive. I have a hard enough time wearing my normal prescription glasses! What I did do was turn on the filter on both my desktop and phone where, after a certain hour, it goes into this anti-blue light mode (everything gets a warm hue). I don’t really know if it’s helped or not, but at least it’s there.

I just dont get it, why this should be more relaxing for our eyes (again when we have perfect vision). Is it because what you mentioned earlier that the 40cm distance (books, smartphones) is generally more easy for our eyes to stare at than the 60cm distance?

The doctor correctly stated it affects our melatonin levels; however, blue light stop the production of melatonin which causes us to wake up. Much like seeing the blue sky and sunlight to wake up from bed. When blue light is not present, our body starts to produce melatonin, which causes us to feel sleepy. That’s why a dark rainy day can make people sleepy. Now, where does the filter come in? Basically, if you have a hallway light that is an LED style light, it can give off some blue light, which can affect your sleeping. Also, other electronics in your room, might have LED back lighting which can also give off blue light, which can again, affect your sleeping and sleeping cycles.

What is the difference between having magnification to help with convergence vs a prism vs a small ADD in the bottom (like Essilor anti fatigue/sightrelax)? I had a concussion and was given a 2 fresnel prism and told to wear them with a no rx lenses for computer work (I am nearsighted with a -2.00 rx for distance). However I was also told I would benefit from a small ADD of 0.6 for my distance lenses, but not to put the fresnel on my distance lenses. Would combining computer glasses with the 0.25 magnification along with the prism potentially provide additional benefit? When would you choose a fresnel prism over magnification for up close reading and vice versa? Similarly when would you choose the 0.25 magnification over the 0.4 ADD (0.4 is the lowest available) of the anti fatigue lenses? From my understanding they all help with convergence but with different mechanisms. There seems to be so many opinions it’s very difficult as a consumer to navigate! Apparently my monitor has anti blue eye feature. Not sure how true that is but the screen dims and turns a slightly yellow colour when its activated.

I use normal prescription glasses with a blue light filter coating on them for every day, it helps filter the extra stimulus when going about my day. and gives me more peaceful feeling throughout the day then normal prescription glasses.
Actually i was given a choice by the eye clinic to choose a total blue type glass and a clear looking glass(with the filter)
and i ended up going for the total clear one. Now my eyes gets super sensitive when i see white color.
I am thinking of going for the yellow shaded type glasses, hopefully they reduce the stress completely.

hey doc ….i am a computer science engineering student and have to do most of my work on pc and due to current scenario the work load has increased a lot….my eyes are perfectly fine but sometimes i get headache while working on my laptop for a longer period of time(*SOMETIMES*)… should i opt for computer glasses….i don’t want anything permanently.
I just use redshift to lower temperature of my display. I have it configured to 4k during the day and 3k during the night. The image looks rather red if you’re not used to it, but you get used to it pretty quickly.
I think Windows now has this feature built in somewhere in settings (though I dunno how configurable it is) plus there’s also f.lux.

I have 20/20 vision. My eyes were starting to hurt and I was getting headaches whenever I used my smartphone. I bought “Gunnar” yellow tinted blue light blocking glasses. Now I can be on the computer and smartphone all day and it doesn’t bother my eyes or give me headaches. Best $63 I spent on E-bay!
First of all, to get this out of the way, you are super cute ? Now, I am wearing glasses for miopia and i only have an antireflex coating. The thing is I am an artist and designer, I can’t really afford to see colors any different than they really are (like with the blue light glasses) I do spend a lot of time on my coputer and phone, do i need any other protection on my glasses? I am using an app both on my phone and computer that ads a coat of yellow light to the screen, which I can disable only in the designing programs. Is this enough protection? Thank you!

Also need to take into account your type of work. Blue light diffuses colors. Colors seem off. I’m a graphic artist and need to see colors accurately. I had them remove the blue light filter.
I used get the +1.00 and thought they were great for computer… until I got prescription computer glasses… wow.. big difference.. specially when one eye is weaker than the other… having the correct computer glasses prescribed makes a huge difference.

My school is fully virtual so that’s 8 hours in front of the screen learning not counting the hours I sit doing homework on the computer and studying. I honestly spend about 12-14 hours on the screen NOT including my phone and tv. This has been my life for the past 10 months and my eyes hurt now even when I’m not using a screen. Should I get Blue light glasses? if so do the ones from Quay work?

Should I get blue light or computer glasses for my 8 year old, who is on the computer all day due to virtual learning?
I’m trying to find a good pair of glasses that can help block out the most amount of blue light and help relieve my eye strain, but I already have prescription glasses for being nearsighted and I don’t know really what I could be looking for in regards to my needs. I work in front of a computer for a minimum of 5 hours a day and then I am bound to be on my phone or computer throughout the remainder of the day on and off, so at least having something I can put on at some point a couple hours before going to be or even while I’m at work to help knock out that blue light exposure seems to be a bit harder then I thought when it comes to the seemingly millions of brands, styles, and types of eyewear to choose from. I got some cheap ones off the internet, but the mild yellow tint barely feels like it did anything and they’re super cheap so I really did get what I paid for, unfortunately 🙁

I went to ‘the best’. Dr. Zelinsky near Chicago who literally helped a woman SHOT IN THE HEAD. Thought this is it! Wore pair after pair for months, then another for months (five pair?) of nauseating painful, distorted lenses thinking it would pay off, gave up 2019. Was a 6 hour trip again, again, again.
Blur stinks but pain becomes a bit much without a break. To a point of debilitating. List of odd visual stuff would be miles long. Never thought of ‘dedicated’ glasses. Think the ability to see near hurts a lot, especially sustained, never thought of it that way. Shifting near far very sluggish.

Hi. I bought a glasses that had anti-radiation coatings on both sides, I tested it with a UV light (while I shop, which was tedious and salesladies seem to have been weirded out), anti-radiation seem to also block UV light as well. Is this true?

I use prescription glasses (only about 0.50 – 1.00) , and I opted to have a blue light filter. It makes everything slightly amber, and I like it! It eliminated my eye strain as well, if only the lenses were taller to cover more height.. Definitely on my next pair!

I got a prescription for +0.75 and astigmatism. Went to a glasses shop here in Cambodia and they just asked me if I want 10, 20 or 30 USD lenses… Took the 30 USD ones (since lenses here are super cheap). Went to get the made classes checked at the optometrist to make sure they are true to my prescription. Turns out the extra 20 was a blue filter and some anti-scratch/glare/fog. 😀
After an hour I get strain blurry image on the monitor so I close the pc n rest pls advice this was never before an using tear drop also

Just looked at this video because I went to the eye doctor and said my vision is perfect but because I look at the screen I can use a light prescription for releasing eye strain. Is there Myopia with Computer glasses.
Blue light lenses do nothing for viewing a computer. That is false. There are studies that prove this over and over. In fact the sun gives off more blue light than any electronic device and still isn’t enough to damage your eyes. I asked my eye Dr. Blue light lenses is a sales thing, strike fear about blue light, sell more upsells…..all BS. Truth is that staring a screen fatigues your eyes whether you have blue light lenses or not. Follow the 20/20/20 rule. Every 20min take a 20 second break 20′ away from the light source you have been staring at. That resets your brain to fight fatigue.

I find that I am wearing my computer glasses for everything except driving…now I just leave my standard prescription glasses in the car. So What I got is a multicoat with 100 power.
As an eye doc, I would not consider making a patient a set of computer glasses without blue-light protection. Older patients will not appreciate the blue-light protection as much as younger people due to the “yellow” cataract blocking more blue light than the glasses lenses, but older patients will appreciate computer lenses with the correct power more than younger people.

Cool shirt. Very informative, I bought some low power readers for book reading. My blue light glasses have zero magnification. Initially I thought they helped, but then started trying my readers and found them much better. I don’t get eyestrain, but I do notice easier focusing with my readers. I went to eye exam to confirm, I still have 20/20, but she wanted to provise ‘reading glasses’ mainly because insurance paid, so I waived that to just keep my standard readers. She offered a bigger number than I’m comfortable with, my long distance is superb.

Hi @Doctor Eye Health, i just got a par of Zeiss Blue Protect lenses. Question, is the “protection” supossed to be on the outside and on the INSIDE of the lens? I’m nearsighted so I wear glasses all the time and I’m totally going to get some computer glasses. It makes so much sense that I wish I had done this earlier. I’m literally staring at a computer all day and then take a short break to drive home so I can stare at my computer screen at home to play games, watch YouTube, Netflix, or study maybe. The whole 20/20/20 rule (every twenty minutes, look at something 20 feet away, for 20 seconds) is well and good but who remembers to do that when they’re hard at work or really focused on a game, book or movie?

Plz show this video before buying like this stuff. Eye strain,etching,headache,dry eyes,discomfort is absolutely right if you stay on computer screen long time but blue light from screen can not cause that eyes problem it’s because of i usually don’t blinks eyes as much as needed when I on the screen of either computer or tablet.
So proper dieat, eyes exercise is better than buying like this stuff!

Great video. I just bought new glasses and was sold Shamir Millennium lenses. The salesperson told me that the blue light filter and computer features were just that features. I thought they would be normal glasses. I put them on and I felt like I was seeing 8k especially when I looked at my TV. I can also see insanely small details from far distances. What you say is correct. When I try to type an email and look down at my keyboard it strains my eyes and hurts a bit to refocus from the laptop screen to the keyboard. I know Shamir is a Elissor company and I’ve never had glasses like these. I always used my normal prescription glasses to look at my phone, watch movies and use my laptop to write emails and documents. Any thoughts? I think I’m going to set these new glasses aside as just movie watching glasses until I learn more.

I have purchased a pair of Thomas James blue light filter glasses. I don’t wear glasses, have never had an eye test. Wearing these is uncomfortable for me and I have to take them off within about 10 minutes. Is this because I simply don’t need glasses, or perhaps I do?

I have not gotten any glasses yet. I am still looking for what I need. Idk if I need gaming glasses , computer glasses or Blue Light Glasses. I sounds like the gaming glasses would be what I am looking for but I have trouble walking and a different field of view could effect my balance. I could just take the glasses off before getting up so it is not that big of a deal.

Hi Doctor Allan . I had my cataracts done, I work in the Hair industry so of course I need reading prescription in my glasses! The rest is just plane glass or plastic. I’m always on my IPAD but if I decide to go to the store my vision is a bit blurry for about an hour after. I do have a slight stigmatism correction in my right lens. I’m do for another vision check. Plus I just got my eyes Lasered for the foggyness after the cataract surgery. I thought I was going to escape that but I didn’t but I was good for four years. The blue lenses sound like a good idea.
I dont have any myopic. Its just I always work in front of laptop. Sometimes (now everyday), my eyes will get itchy and watery. Is using these glasses will help me to overcome these problem? Thank you
When I was buying glasses today they where really really really pushing for me to buy blue light glasses (*NOT* computer glasses). Like holy (edited) pushing. And yet I can’t find any scientific studies anywhere on the internet that prove that blue blockers are necessary if your going to use a phone, or computer screen (though funny that noone pitched TV’s or counter displays (same tech)). They also tried to pull a scare tactic by trying to tell me it’s the leading cause of macular degeneration (?!!), and other eye diseases(?!). I can’t find any proof of that anywhere. I’ve never had problems sitting in front of computer screens for long hours (been a hard core computer guy for well over 30 years – I don’t wear glassess at for that (I’m near sighted and very comfortable reading with out glasses), and I sit the proper distance from my screens (follow other good practices as well) – and no, I don’t take my phone or any other device with a screen to bed with me). What is with the huge push for blue light glasses (or blue light coatings)? UV coatings I do understand why one wants them. But not the blue light blocking coatings…

I have 2 pair of glasses. One of them is a regular lens. One of them has coating to block blue light.. The one that has the coating really helps reduce eye strain I’ve noticed, and I can use the computer much longer
I just use reading glasses for my computer work. I am not able to wear my progressive lens glasses for the computer. That doesn’t work for me. But I found that my reading glasses work just fine – no blurry spots and everything looks the same.
Soooo….I’ve noticed over the past year maybe that if I’m looking and doing stuff on my phone and then looking up at my TV (~10ft) away, that my eyes have a hard time focusing on TV text and take a 5-10 seconds at times to get used to the adjustment and focus. Should I be concerned and possibly need glasses? Edit: Well, just watched the video and I figure it’s best to just see an eye doctor for the first time ever. Staring at a PC monitor full time for work and being in my 30s, it’s time.

I prefer myopia prevention computer glasses. I am now back to 20/20.
I use 2 types of eyeglasses. When casually walking around on the floor and jumping quick behind the computer, I used my trifocal progressive glasses. When working behind my desk for an extended period of time, I use dedicated computer progressive glasses.
I’m more concerned of the fact that I don’t have any symptoms after 8 hours on computer with no glasses and perfect vision.

I went to an ophthalmologist and had them analyze exactly what I needed. They did an amazing job and it was life changing for my IT job. However, they didn’t see blue light blocking technology as necessary since the sun and being outside provides 100x more exposure.

I had opposite effect. I wore blue light glasses for 6 months and I stopped. It made me feel sleepy. The color is not true as everything is more brownish color, so if your a photographer, it will drive you nuts.
